Wood and sulfur-based cyclic denitrification filters for treatment of saline wastewaters

نویسندگان

چکیده

This study investigated the performance and microbiome of cyclic denitrification filters (CDFs) for wood sulfur heterotrophic-autotrophic (WSHAD) saline wastewater. Wood-sulfur CDFs integrated into two pilot-scale marine recirculating aquaculture systems achieved high rates (103 ± 8.5 g N/(m3·d)). The combined use pine resulted in lower SO42? accumulation compared with prior wastewater studies alone. Although fish tank water quality parameters, including ammonia, nitrite, nitrate sulfide, were below inhibitory levels production, survival Poecilia sphenops observed studies. Heterotrophic was dominant removal mechanism during early operational stages, while autotrophic increased as readily biodegradable organic carbon released from chips decreased over time. 16S rRNA-based analysis CDF revealed that Sulfurimonas, Thioalbus, Defluviimonas, Ornatilinea notable genera contributed to performance.

Sulfur-based Autotrophic Denitrification

Sulfur-based autotrophic denitrification processes utilize autotrophic denitrifiers, such as Thiobacillus denitrificans and Thiomicrospira denitrificans, to reduce nitrate to nitrogen gas. Bench-scale experiments were conducted to evaluate the sulfur-based autotrophic denitrification process. This paper addresses three issues: (1) start-up and operation of a CSTR to provide an adequate seed sou...

Combined bioelectrochemical and sulfur autotrophic denitrification for drinking water treatment.

A combined bioelectrochemical and sulfur autotrophic denitrification process for drinking water treatment was put forward and investigated extensively in this paper. In this new process, the bioelectrochemical denitrification was carried out in the upper part of the reactor while sulfur denitrification in the lower part. The H+ produced in Sulfur Part could be consumed by hydrogen denitrificati...

Treatment of expansive soils with quality saline pore water by cyclic drying and wetting

Expansive soils can be found in many parts of the world particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. These soilspose a significant hazard to civil engineering structures due to its high swelling and shrinkage potential. This paperpresents the results of an experimental program developed to investigate the effect of cyclic drying and wetting on theswelling potential of expansive soils with variou...
